The Causes of Back Pain and How Chiropractic Can Fix It.

Back pain is very common, it can be a mild tension or a severe pain that can completely immobilize you. Determining the origins of your pain is the first step.

Lower Back Pain

What Causes Lower Back Pain & Why Chiropractic Helps with Relief

Typically felt along the beltline or in the muscles to either side of the spine.

Lower back pain can be mildly irritating with certain movements or so severe that it is difficult to get out of bed.

This type of pain can be the result of an injury or trauma but in some cases it develops without any particular cause.

Upper Back Pain

What Causes Upper Back Pain

Typically felt between the shoulder blades or in the trapezius muscles between the shoulder and the base of your neck.

This too can develop from several causes like an injury, a poor night of sleep or without any particular event at all.

This is typically aggravated with neck movements and raising your arms above your shoulders.

Common Causes of Back Pain

There are several factors to consider when determining the cause of your back pain.

Disc Herniations - Gradual or immediate onset, a disc herniation can be the result of a trauma, like a car accident or the result of gradual stressors and microtraumas over time.

Nerve Compression/Neuropathy - Nerves can be compressed by a disc, scar tissue from a previous injury, muscle tension and even inflammation. This could result in numbness, tingling, shooting pain, weakness and potential muscle loss.

Muscle Spasm & Joint Misalignment - Muscle spasms and joint misalignments are a common cause of back pain that typically occur together and sometimes without a particular cause. While muscle spasms seem mild these can be so severe that almost any movement can cause debilitating pain.

Visceral Pain -  Back pain can even be a sign of problems with vital organs like your kidneys, gallbladder and appendix. If you are experiencing back pain it is important to be evaluated by a professional immediately to rule out these types of causes.
